Bonds are the traditional method of extensions which last up to 4 months and are very versatile. They can be of benefit to create more fullness, assist in growing out a haircut or deal with hair loss through alopecia, cancer, or trichotillomania.
Tapes have grown hugely in popularity over the last few years due to their fast application and removal, and re-use of the hair. They are incredibly lightweight and are an alternative to traditional extensions as they can be put in and taken out quickly for a special occasion and can be used to add variants of colour through the hair.

Who would you recommend Hair Extensions are suitable for?
Hair extensions are so versatile and have become hugely popular in the last few years. Many of my clients have come to me because they either have fine hair and want to add more volume or because they have suffered hair loss. In the case of hair loss, I would never apply extensions until they are no longer going through this process. As women age their hair can change and you can lose volume which can have a detrimental effect on how you feel. Adding some extensions can give you a boost and add back in the fullness that you had previously.
I use bonds and tapes and both methods can create volume or length but the maintenance is different which determines what a lot of people choose to go for.

What is your favourite thing about being an extensionist expert?

My favourite thing about extensions is how we can transform clients whole look and overall confidence. It is a wonderful feeling when you can change someone’s mood completely through what you do to their hair. Some clients just add a few bonds to specific areas they want to fill and this will add instant thickness, whereas others want their hair to be much thicker and longer and they can have a full head of bonds to achieve this. I love working with our colour team to ensure the extensions match and blend with the work they have created on their clients in the salon to add texture and enhance their overall look. That is why the consultation process is so important.

 Frankie is offering the brand new innovative CombLine extension method.

What is the new CombLine method?

CombLine is an innovative extension system creating invisible, lightweight and super comfortable joints. This allows you to have hair extensions in areas that you cannot with other methods such as the contours, hairline and in the upper areas such as the parting.

It can be applied to both men and women of all ages, to help increase volume and length and can be combed, dyed and ironed as if it were natural hair.

The extensions generally last 4 to 8 weeks or more depending on where they have been placed and the aftercare and then can also be used in conjunction with other methods to maximise the results.

What is your best tip for looking after extensions?

My best tip is to not be afraid. They should add to your life and not become a huge maintenance. If you treat them as you would your own hair you can get the best out of them and keep them in optimum condition. A full aftercare will always be talked through during the consultation and application.

My top tips invest in a good extension brush to use daily, sleep with your hair up using a silk hair band, use a good quality Sulphate free shampoo my favourite is the Jo Hansford Everyday shampoo. I recommend booking your next appointment in advance which means you are keeping on top of refitting the extensions in the correct time frame and avoiding matting.
