Grey Blending Specialists

Grey hair is one of the most personal decisions a client brings to a colourist. Some people want it covered completely. Others want to keep some silver while managing the overall balance. Many are somewhere in between - not quite ready to stop colouring, but curious about what embracing their natural tone might look like. Wherever you are with it, the conversation starts the same way: with an honest look at your hair and a clear discussion about what your options actually are.

Our colour specialists have been working with grey hair for over 30 years. We do not have a standard approach, because grey hair is not a standard situation. The right technique depends on how much grey you have, where it is concentrated, what your natural base colour is and how much maintenance you are prepared to commit to. We will talk through all of this at your consultation.

Our Approach to grey blending

There are three different approaches our team of experts take to managing grey hair, and they suit a variety of clients at different stages:

Full coverage

A single-process tint that covers grey entirely and returns the hair to a chosen shade. The most effective option for clients with significant grey who want a uniform, consistent result. Requires regular root appointments - typically every four to six weeks - to maintain.

Grey blending

Using highlights, lowlights or a combination of both to soften the contrast between grey and the natural base colour. This approach does not cover grey fully, but it integrates it in a way that looks deliberate rather than grown-out. Lower maintenance than full coverage and often more flattering for clients with a mix of grey and natural colour.

Transition support

For clients who have decided to stop colouring and embrace their natural grey to come through, we can manage the grow-out process so it looks considered at every stage. This might involve blending techniques to reduce the contrast during the transition, or strategic trimming and conditioning to keep the hair looking its best while it grows.

Grey Hair and Condition

Grey hair tends to have a different texture and porosity to pigmented hair - it is often coarser, can be more resistant to colour uptake and may require different products at home to keep it looking its best. We take the current condition of your hair seriously
when planning any colour service, and we will be honest with you about what the hair can sustain before we agree on an approach.

Our product range includes options specifically developed for colour-treated hair, and we will recommend what to use between appointments to keep your colour looking fresh for as long as possible.
