The balayage evolution
What makes modern balayage different?
Balayage has evolved from the brighter, sun-kissed finish it was once known for. Today, it is more refined, more dimensional and increasingly personalised.
Create light strategically
Brightness around the face can illuminate the complexion, while softer ribbons through the mid-lengths and ends create movement without losing natural depth.
Work with your natural colour
From creamy blonde and soft beige to honey, caramel and richer brunette tones, the shade should complement the client’s natural base rather than compete with it.
Keep depth where it matters
Retaining carefully placed depth between lighter pieces creates contrast and movement, helping the finished colour look softer, richer and more natural.
The modern approach
Balayage is no longer one look
For blonde hair, balayage can create delicate brightness and a seamless finish. For brunettes, caramel, honey or neutral tones can introduce light without losing the richness of the natural base.
It can be subtle enough that the technique is almost imperceptible, or brighter and more transformative while still retaining softness at the root. The technique is adapted to the client, rather than the client being fitted to a particular trend.

Your colour consultation
A balayage plan designed around you
No two balayage appointments should be exactly the same. Your natural base, previous colour history, hair condition, complexion, haircut and preferred level of maintenance all influence the final plan.
Personalisation
Your natural base
Working with the depth already present in the hair can create a softer and more flattering result.
Maintenance
Your lifestyle
Some clients want brighter colour with regular appointments; others prefer a softer result designed to grow out more naturally.
Condition
Your hair health
Lightened hair benefits from professional treatments, conditioning, heat protection and a considered homecare routine to help retain softness, strength and shine.
Maintenance
How often should balayage be refreshed?
One of balayage’s advantages is its softer grow-out. Depending on the amount of brightness and the finish you prefer, a full balayage may only need refreshing every few months.
Toners, glosses and smaller face-framing appointments can be used between larger colour services to bring tone and brightness back into balance without repeating the whole service.

Balayage aftercare
How to maintain your balayage at home
Beautiful balayage does not end when you leave the salon. The right aftercare can help preserve tone, maintain shine and keep lightened lengths feeling soft and healthy between appointments.
For Tamim, maintaining the condition of the hair is just as important as maintaining the colour. Using hydrating, shine-enhancing products at home can help balayage retain the polished, dimensional finish created in the salon.

Give your colour an extra conditioning boost
Balayage appointments can also be an opportunity to give the hair additional support. If the hair is being lightened or needs extra care, Tamim may recommend adding a bond-building treatment such as K18 to your colour service.
For hair in need of an additional boost of hydration, softness or shine, a Kérastase Fusio-Dose treatment can also be added to the appointment. The treatment can be selected according to the individual needs of the hair, allowing your colour and care routine to work together.

The finished result
Colour that looks like it belongs to you
The biggest evolution in balayage is that it no longer feels like a single trend. The most successful colour should enhance the hair, flatter the complexion and grow out beautifully, without the technique itself becoming the first thing you notice.
